News & Notes

October 2016

We are nearing the end of the first nine weeks and it has certainly been busy. We have four Kindergarten students, two 1st graders and one 2nd grader. It has been fun for everyone to get to know each other and find out interests and things each person likes to do. We have a wonderful high school peer tutor named Meredith for 2nd period who helps us. We also have an awesome adult volunteer once a week. Ms. Rita loves to read stories to the students and give them some special one-on-one time. Our first thematic unit (Unique Learning Curriculum) was about working together in the classroom and we have practiced sharing and cleaning up after ourselves just like the students in the books we've read. We also started the "Letter of the Week" and books, writing, art, and cooking activities are centered around that letter. We are working on an alphabet book which students will take home to keep when it is completed.
