Brian Turner speaking with students

Johnston Elementary welcomed a special guest recently as Buncombe County House Representative Brian Turner stepped into the role of “Principal for the Day.” The visit offered Rep. Turner a firsthand look at the hard work and dedication that goes into running a school, and the joys of connecting with students and staff alike.

Rep. Turner began his visit with a guided tour led by the school’s 4th grade ambassadors.
As he walked through the hallways, he took special note of the vibrant display of flags from around the world. He learned that each flag represents a student, or students, whose heritage traces back to that country. This powerful visual celebrates the rich cultural diversity that makes Johnston Elementary such a unique and welcoming place to learn.

During his visit Rep Turner explored several key learning spaces, including the media center, the STEM lab, and the art room. He observed students engaged in hands-on learning activities, gaining insight into the school’s commitment to providing a well-rounded education.

The experience would not have been complete without taking part in one of the busiest times of the school day: lunch duty. Rep. Turner jumped right in to help, bringing smiles to students during their midday break.
