Three rows of students holding up their python coding certification

For the first time in school history, 24 students at Nesbitt Discovery Academy have earned their Python coding certification, marking a significant milestone for the STEM-focused high school.

The students, all part of a computer science course led by instructor Misti McDaniels, completed the rigorous requirements necessary to obtain the industry-recognized certification, which demonstrates proficiency in Python, one of the most widely used programming languages in the world.

“I am so proud of these students and all they accomplished this year,” said McDaniels. “Becoming a certified coder takes perseverance, deep thinking, and a passion for creative thinking. One of the most important skills learned in coding is program-solving, and over the course of this semester, I watched students go from writing their first ‘Hello, World’ (the first code every programmer learns) to developing the thrill of solving complex problems through logic and creativity.”

The certification is awarded by the Python Institute and is recognized globally by employers and universities. Students spent months learning and applying coding concepts, completing projects, and preparing for the certification exam.

As interest in computer science and coding continues globally, Nesbitt Discovery Academy’s achievement reflects a broader push to equip students with real-world, industry-relevant skills.
