The sound of excitement filled the gyms at W.D. Williams Elementary and Haw Creek Elementary as students slipped on brand new shoes - gifts made possible through a special partnership with Samaritan’s Feet and Charlotte Hornets player Sion James.
James, who has made it his mission to ensure every child has access to a comfortable pair of shoes, helped make this day one to remember. Volunteers from Samaritan’s Feet worked carefully to measure, fit, and tie laces, making sure every student walked away with the perfect pair.
At Haw Creek Elementary, smiles and laughter echoed as students ran and jumped with joy in their new shoes. For many, it was more than just footwear - it was a boost of confidence and care that will carry them through the school year.
“This simple yet profound act makes a lasting difference in the lives of our students,” said Haw Creek Principal Christen Davidson. “With new shoes, our students can walk, run, and play comfortably and safely, helping them to focus better in the classroom and engage fully in school activities. Thanks to Samaritan’s Feet, Haw Creek Elementary is not just a place of learning - it is a community where every child’s well-being is prioritized and nurtured.”
Thanks to this heartwarming act of generosity, hundreds of students in Buncombe County are stepping forward with comfort, confidence, and gratitude - one pair of shoes at a time.
